Photos - Estonia
We started our 2007 Baltics holiday in Estonia, the most Northern of the three Baltic countries. We arrived in Tallinn by ferry (basically a floating liqueur store) from Helsinki and camped a couple of days on the Tallinn City Camping, 15 minutes walking from the city centre. We also visited Paldiski and camped on Saaremaa, the biggest Island of the Baltic region.
The Old Town of Tallinn enclosed by city walls is one of the prettiest in Eastern Europe. Highlights from the Soviet era are the TV Tower, Olympic harbour, Linnahall, former KGB headquarters and the Maarjamae War Memorial. There are also some excellent antique shops in Tallinn that sell memorabilia from the Soviet era. From Tallinn we drove to Paldiski a former secret submarine base and training centre. Not much remained of that period but it was still a nice place to look around. Our final destination in Estonia was Saaremaa, the biggest island of the Baltics. We set up our tent on a nice camping on the beach and relaxed for a couple of days on this beautiful island.
