Photos Lenin and Frunze Museum Bishkek

Kyrgyzstan is one of the far corners of the former Soviet empire where time seems to have stood still since the USSR felt apart in the early 1990s. Lenin still stands in most of the cities and Soviet architecture is mostly untouched. The same goes for the various museums in the capital, most notable the former Lenin Museum and the Frunze Museum that we both visited in 2009.

The Lenin Museum is now renamed to the National Museum but most of the Soviet era exhibition is still in place. The Frunze Museum includes the birth House of the famous Bolshevik leader Mikhail Frunze who was born in Bishkek. It is very likely that both museum will undergo modernization in the future, let's hope that the Kyrgyz authorities will leave things as they are for now, so tourist can make a trip to the past and experience the Soviet Union as it was.
